Dr. David N. Carothers, DDS DABDSM
My name is Dr. Dave Carothers. I was born and raised here in Portland, Oregon. I went to high school at Portland Adventist Academy. I attended Portland State University and then went on to attend dental school at Loma Linda University in California, of which I am now an associate professor. After graduating in 1980, I continued my education with advanced cosmetic dental procedures at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Cosmetic Studies. I then moved back to Portland to practice dentistry for 5 years with my father who was a local general dentist. In 1985, I started my own practice, which still stands today in our current location.
As advancements in dentistry continue to surface, my staff and I work very hard to keep up with the latest in materials and techniques. Incorporating new techniques and treatments into the practice enable us to provide the best comprehensive care for our patients. For this reason we have taken the opportunity to learn about and incorporate some advanced technologies and treatments such as dental implants, invisible braces (Invisalign), one-visit porcelain crowns, and mercury-free fillings. I am constantly expanding my knowledge of dentistry by being involved in continuing education classes and staying updated on the current events of dentistry all over the world.
Most recently I have been expanding my services to include treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea by working with local pulmonologists and sleep doctors. I am currently a Diplomate with the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine with more than 25 hours of Continuing Education including clinical proficiency. Diplomates of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM) have received the highest credential a dentist can earn in dental sleep medicine. They have demonstrated competency in dental sleep medicine by passing a rigorous written examination.
Aside from serving Portland and its surrounding areas, I believe that serving the underprivileged is part of my calling in my career. My staff and I fulfill this by taking annual trips to Nicaragua to charitably treat many underserved patients. We also devote charitable time into treating all the CASS / SEED students (exchange students from Central America) at Mt. Hood Community College for all their dental needs. I also support the public schools and Multnomah Dental Society's Senior Smile Program. I am an active member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and the Society For Mercury Free Dentistry.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my lovely wife, Kathy while designing and building water features, scuba diving, photography, panning for gold, and playing with remote control toys.
Feel free to contact any of my staff or myself for questions about our office or our services. I look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Dave Carothers, DDS, DABDSM
